About

Who would have thought that mixing mud pies in our alley when I was very,
very young would lead me to my future creative pursuits?

For the past several years I have worked primarily with clay, using my hands to
build forms that connect me to one of the most ancient traditions. Previously,
my focus was painting on soft cotton paper.

It’s that tactile quality of flowing paint which connects me to the properties
of flowing glaze. Much like liquid ingredients going into an oven and coming
out a cake, it is that transformation of clay during firing that encourages my
exploration. Those changes of chemical and physical structure mesmerize me.

As I now move back and forth between transforming clay and paper with
figures that have inhabited my work for 4 decades, it rekindles that excitement
I felt as a child, pulling me full circle.
