About

“I am in spirit a fine artist,” and has since pursued a creative path beyond commercial constraints.
In 1990, Iram was first invited to exhibit his work in a group show organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Association. Surrounded by established Caribbean artists whose work predominantly centered on Caribbean life, Iram’s jazz and dance pieces stood out for their vibrant energy, marking the start of his public artistic journey.
Iram’s art reflects his deep passion for jazz and dance. He views jazz as a form of freedom, using its notes and melodies to express struggles related to social and humanitarian issues. His paintings seek to tell the story and evolution of jazz, encouraging others to embrace this quintessentially American art form.
In dance, Iram captures its essence with a focus on energy, intent, drama, and spirit. His artistic process involves starting with a dark canvas and sketching with white charcoal, then blending colors to create striking contrasts. He deliberately avoids creating conventional, decorative colors, instead using vivid hues that challenge the darkness—the void before the performance, the life reflected just before it bursts into action.
In his artist statement, Iram Yeates describes himself as a passionate artist dedicated to his craft, hoping to share its transformative impact with the world. He aspires not only for his audience to enjoy his work but also to understand the vital role of artistic expression in our lives.
I choose to explorer the realms Jazz, Dance and Historical figures through visual art as I seek to shed light on our cultural icons. I am constantly reflecting on the beauty I encounter and take pleasure in sharing my creations. I truly want my work to enrich others’ lives as much as it has enriched mine.
