Showing at Site #7: The Loft at SOPAC (Saturday Only)
Christopher Statham’s work sits at the intersection of quiet luxury, tactile emotion, and architectural presence. Informed by a background at Parsons School of Design and a two-decade career in high fashion—shaping collections for world-class houses including Oscar de la Renta and Donna Karan—his artistic approach is rooted in an intimate understanding of form, scale, and materiality.
Working primarily in oil pastel and oil paint, Statham exploits the buttery richness and visceral immediacy of these mediums. His technique blends the structured rigor of haute couture with a fluid, expressive spontaneity. Rich layers of pigment are built up, scraped back, and sculpted across the surface, giving every canvas a sense of depth, rhythm, and history. The saturated warmth of oil pastel brings an unmistakable intimacy and movement to the work, while oil paint lends an enduring weight and luminosity.
For Statham, art does not exist in a vacuum; it is the soul of a space. Rejecting the sterile, manufactured aesthetic of modern design, his paintings act as dynamic anchors within residential environments—transforming rooms into curated, deeply personal sanctuaries that are as livable as they are evocative. Each piece is a celebration of color theory, texture, and refined elegance, designed to spark imagination and bring an enduring, atmospheric warmth to contemporary living.
